In some severe cases medication can be given in the form of enemas into the bowel which can usually work faster It is very important that your child takes the laxatives and if they are not working you must consult your nurse or doctor If they are working it is important to keep taking them until your nurse or doctor advice you to stop. Medications should not be stopped suddenly but should be gradually reduced to allow the bowel to start working normally again Where can I get further advice? If your child has ongoing problems you should seek help from a paediatric specialist where more advanced therapy can be offered
